From one perspective, June was a very slow month for Indian content on Netflix, with only three movies and one series added. Chennai-based IT professional Arivu (Kathir) returns to his small town for his older brother’s wedding, but the wedding is suddenly called off. Only then does Arivu realize that the “daring, stylish and sharp” woman he has fallen in love with is the same woman who would marry his brother. Director Prabhakaran’s Sarbath feature debut is also the first on-screen collaboration between actors Kathir and Soori, who plays Arivu’s best friend.

While visiting her late father’s small village in Rajasthan, London advertising executive Jessica introduces the local kids to skateboarding. The kids immediately take to the sport, especially a teenage girl named Prerna, who sees it as an opportunity to escape the fate that has dictated her caste and gender. The makers of roller skater (originally titled Desert Dolphin) built a skate park in Rajasthan for filming which is still in use by local children.

Eagle-eyed What’s on Netflix readers will recognize Dhanush’s name from the star cast of the Russo Brothers’ super-expensive thriller the gray man, which will be released on Netflix in 2022. Dhanush plays Suruli, a Madurai mobster eager to get out of his criminal life and settle down after one last goal. A British mobster named Peter (James Cosmo, aka Jeor Mormont in Game of Thrones and a million other roles) Suruli flies to London to infiltrate and eliminate the gang of a Tamil-speaking don named Sivadoss. The work gets more complicated as Suruli learns more about the people Sivadoss tries to help with his money and Peter’s xenophobia.

The anthology series Ray contains adaptations of four stories by renowned filmmaker and author Satyajit Ray. Each short film clocks in at around an hour. Do not forget me (dir. Srijit Mukherji) plays Ali Fazal as an entrepreneur whose infallible memory is questioned. In Bahrupiya (dir. Mukherji, again), Kay Kay Menon plays a wounded office worker with a secret talent for makeup and prosthetics. Manoj Bajpayee and Gajraj Rao have a fateful meeting on a train in director Abhishek Chaubey’s Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa. After mocking himself as a desperate and insecure star in the great Netflix Original movie AK vs AKHarshvardhan Kapoor stars in another desperate, insecure star ster spotlight (direction Vasan Bala).
