Samsung and Google take another big step in their plan to take on the Apple Watch

With Apple slowly extending its lead in the smartwatch game every year, Samsung and google have teamed up to put up some resistance. The partnership was first announced by Google at the Google I/O 2021 developer conference, and Samsung has now previewed how Google’s WearOS and Samsung’s Tizen are coming together to create a new interface for Galaxy Watch to support the Apple Watch.
on the virtual Mobile World Congress At this event, Samsung showed how it is partnering with Google to make the smartwatch’s interface more intuitive and rich. The OneUI Watch interface was jointly developed by Google and Samsung to achieve a deeper integration between the smartwatch and smartphone. This includes access to: android apps on Galaxy smartwatches along with better data sync between your Android powered Galaxy smartphone and smartwatch.
“As part of the new experience, once you install watch-compatible apps on your smartphone, they are quickly downloaded to your smartwatch. If you’ve customized your clock app on your phone to show the time in different cities around the world, it will automatically show on your watch as well. And if you block calls and messages from your watch, they will now also be blocked on your smartphone,” explains Samsung.
Another major announcement Samsung has made is that it is now offering software updates and Galaxy Store support for up to three years for all Galaxy Watch smartwatches.
The new unified OneUi Watch interface also gives users the ability to use third-party apps from Google Play directly on their Galaxy Watch. This means Galaxy Watch users can now access apps such as Adidas Running, GOLFBUDDY Smart Caddy, Strava and Swim.com, Calm or Sleep Cycle, Spotify and YouTube Music and even Google Maps.
Samsung also said it will bring an improved watch face design tool, making it easier for Android developers to create new watch faces. Samsung will reveal more details about the new unified user interface later at Samsung’s Unpacked event.
